Description:
If you want to increase your real-world video production
skill set, then this class is for you! We will go through a typical video
production kit (complete with lights), cover camera basics, shot selection, and
ways to shoot so that you won’t have to “fix it in post.”
As time allows, we will also discuss visualizing your idea
(pre-production), and larger budget production projects.
More specifically we will cover:
- Camera operation: how to set-up and operate a professional
video production camera, and shoot like a pro—goodbye zooms (and why)!
- Shot composition: how to frame your subject in an
interesting and aesthetically pleasing way, as well as specific photographic
principles.
- Exposure control: understanding f-stops, how the iris
affects exposure, using zebras effectively, shutter speed, and gain.
- White Balance: how to overcome the all-too-common problem
of an incorrect white balance. But wait there’s more!: Understanding color
temperatures, and using them correctly and creatively (so that it doesn’t come
back to bite you).
- Lighting: Principles of good lighting, ratios, different
kinds of light (Rembrandt light, hard light vs. soft light, side light, back
light, and more!), different light sources, the 3-light setup, how to use
everyday fixtures and light on the cheap.
Time Permitting we will also cover:
- Pre-Production: thinking through your plan and visualizing
your idea.
- Big budget production: some cool elements of larger-scale
video/film productions
