WordPress - Managing Content
Registration is required for this offering (below).
Description:
If you want an easy, powerful way to update your website often, you want WordPress.  This flexible, highly customizable content management system (CMS) is ideal for blogs, small business websites, online art galleries, and more.

This workshop, the second in BDA's WordPress series, is for anyone who will be updating and maintaining a WordPress site on a regular basis.  You've finished installing WordPress and creating a basic site (or had a web developer do it for you), now you need to know how to create and publish new content.

We will cover:
  • Mastering the Visual Editor (and installing/using Advanced Editor)
  • Developing your site architecture using categories, posts, and pages
  • Inserting images, media and files
  • Using tags
  • Managing comments and preventing spam
  • Creating internal links and hyperlinks
  • Effective use of the All-In-One SEO plugin for search engine optimization
  • Using the default widgets and recommended 3rd party widgets

Please note that WordPress.org is different from WordPress.com.  WordPress.com is only for blogs and non-commercial sites.  BDA's workshops cover WordPress.org

What Should I Take Next?
The next workshop in this series, WordPress - Customization, will teach you the ins and outs of serious customization with widgets, themes, and CSS.
Presented as a Lecture-Style Workshop:
These are our most affordable training programs, designed to introduce a subject quickly and efficiently. Students can take notes from the instructor's projected computer screen, and/or bring their own computer to follow along. Lecture-style workshops are normally held on weekday evenings from 6 pm – 9 pm and contain a maximum of 30 students (average is 8-20).
Who Should Take This:
People who will be responsible for creating and managing content on a WordPress site, and web developers who need to train their clients. You must have a site set up and ready in WordPress 2.9+. Learn how in BDA's WordPress - Installing & Getting Started workshop.
Instructor:
Bethany SieglerBethany Siegler of UniqueThink.com helps build your complete online presence. Her focus is on finding cost-effective marketing solutions that allow you to be as self-sufficient as you prefer. WordPress definitely fits that description, and Bethany uses it to build full websites, as well as stand alone blogs. She can also introduce you to effective ways of connecting to and continuing the conversation with your audience, while creating unique opportunities for sales.

Bethany has created online marketing campaigns for musical artists as distinct as Frank Black (Pixies) and David Wilcox, software developers as diverse as Wild Divine and OfficeTime, and local independent businesses like The Video Station and Boulder Weekly. She has also represented major corporations like SONY and Budweiser, yet prefers to work with and find solutions for smaller companies.

BDA Member Cost: $59.00 ($69.00 after Friday, September 03, 2010)

I've used ModX CMS - very similar - so I found this familiar and easy to follow the way Bethany presented. Lots of great tips/shortcuts & how-tos offered and demonstrated.
