The Business of Photography is a three-hour class designed to help the budding photographer get his business started. The course will introduce the photographer to not only the world of marketing, social media, web presence and spreading the word about your photo business, but also about the business of running a photography business.

Photography as a business is more and more challenging in the digital age. Photographers need to stay abreast of new technologies, new media and the latest trends on the Internet. Not only do you need to be a good and competitive photographer, but you must also be a well-rounded business person and a self-promoter, no matter what area of photography you decide to pursue.

  • Developing a business plan
  • Individually Owned Business or LLC
  • Location and Equipment
  • Developing and Operating within a Budget
  • Determining your prices
  • Developing a Website
  • Working with Social Media: Twitter, Facebook and Others
  • Marketing - Email, Cold Calls, Advertising

Bob Pearson

Bob Pearson is a photojournalist and editor with 30+ years of experience in news photography, covering sports, politics and the human condition worldwide. Bob spent over 20 years with Agence France-Presse (AFP). He served as Chief Photographer and Director of Photography for AFP, covering the White House and Capitol Hill, and coordinating coverage for North America. Pearson's photographs have been published worldwide, including major newspapers and magazines such as The NY Times, USAToday, Time Magazine, Newsweek, US News and World Report, Paris Match, Der Spiegel and others.

Bob is currently based in Indian Hills where he runs his freelance photography and consulting business.

This is BDA's headquarters located at Arapahoe Avenue and Range Street in Boulder (approximately 52nd and Arapahoe) on the northeast corner of Range and Arapahoe. The building is .6 miles east of Foothills Parkway, and .25 miles west of 55th Street. Range is the street that is between the stoplights at Conestoga and Commerce. Parking is available all around the building.
