Space Waves immerses players in a mystical realm right away, with many bands of light creating gentle but perilous pathways as they travel into the universe’s depths. You must use your intuition to sense the energy waves that live, breathe, and pulsate in that place; it is not as peaceful as you had thought. Players in game become more than just pilots; they become part of the cosmos and merge in with its beat while riding the ever-changing waves of light. Additionally, you are compelled to modify yourself in order to continue the voyage between the precarious boundaries of sublimation and failure as those light waves twist, bend, divide, or disintegrate.
Few games have the layers of intricate design that Space Waves starts to show as you go through the game. Built with odd hues and ever-changing light patterns, each space area is a dynamic artwork that seems to be conducting an art performance. Only the faint buzz of electronic noises can be heard as you are floating along a long, bright avenue that is as serene as the surface of a still body of water. However, there are other moments when the area abruptly transforms into a massive spiral labyrinth, with waves of energy pouring in as though to engulf anybody who is not fast and vigilant enough. Because of this stark contrast, every moment in the game is unexpected and keeps the player focused but not exhausted; rather, it gives you the impression that a huge cosmos is changing with every action you do.
