I’ve been running my store on BigCommerce for about two years now, and the catalog has gotten out of hand. When I started it was maybe 40 products and I just edited everything by hand. Now I’m somewhere around 900 SKUs, and that approach is pretty much dead.
What I do at the moment is fairly basic. Small tweaks still go through the product editor, but anything bigger goes through CSV: price changes, stock counts, new batches of products. One lesson I learned the hard way is to export a backup first. I once imported a file with a shifted column and half my sale prices turned into weights. Not fun.
Categories have been a headache too. Mine were a mess for a long time, with three different names for basically the same thing. I cleaned them up last spring and it made a real difference, both for search and for how people browse. I’m also trying to use variants properly now instead of making a separate listing for every color, which is what I used to do (don’t judge me).
Inventory sync is the part I still haven’t sorted out. I sell on a couple of other channels and keeping the numbers matched is a pain. A friend of mine paid for BigCommerce development servicesBigCommerce development services to connect his store to his ERP, and he says it saves him hours every week. I’m still on the fence about spending that money.
So what are you all doing? CSV or API? Any apps you actually like? And how do you stop duplicate SKUs from sneaking in? Mine keep showing up somehow.
