I have an important work trip on Monday and my car picked the worst time to fail, so I need some advice fast. I have a 2016 Volkswagen Jetta with the automatic gearbox and about 120,000 kilometers. On Thursday evening, while I was driving home, the engine sound went up but the car did not speed up, and then it jerked hard and went into a safe mode. It would only stay in one gear after that. I drove slowly to my building and parked, and I have not touched it since. A friend says it is probably the clutch and a repair will take a week. My brother says it may be only a sensor and a good garage can fix it in a few hours. I did not know who to believe, so one night I read about it online. I opened a page about Volkswagen cars on a Sharjah website to learn how the gearbox, the oil and the computer work together. It said that a safe mode can come from a small fault like a sensor or low oil, and that a scan is the best first step before anyone decides on a big repair. That gave me some hope. Then a coworker told me to look for a Same-day Volkswagen transmission repair in Sharjah and ask them to scan the car first and tell me honestly if it can be done in one day. He said fast is good only if they show me the fault codes and explain the problem in easy words. I liked that advice because I cannot afford to lose the trip. So I have some questions. Can a gearbox that went into safe mode really be fixed in one day, or is that only for small problems? Is it safe to drive the car a short way to a garage, or should I call a tow truck? Should I ask for the fault codes on paper before I agree to any work? And what is a fair price for a first scan and check? If you had the same thing on your Jetta, Golf or another Volkswagen, please tell me what it was, how many days it took, and about how much you paid. Thanks a lot.
