After growing up in the shopping mall wilds of suburban New Jersey, John Lorenz moved to the West in the late 80's where he has been documenting its mountains, deserts, and cities ever since. Drawn by the diversity of land, climate, altitude and culture that defines the West, he has lived in Los Angeles on one extreme and on the edge of Colorado's vast San Luis Valley at the other end of the scale. Living 40 miles from the nearest stoplight with unobstructed 90-mile views creates an unusual perspective which forever rearranges the way one sees the world, and that is reflected in his images, which are often about space, emptiness, and distance.
