In this one week certificate program you will learn storytelling techniques, how to edit video in Final Cut Pro X, how to create exciting motion graphics, and master your productions to tape, DVD and the web. You will gain the skills necessary to edit video professionally.

Program Description

It takes a lot of skill to become a good video editor - our one-week program will help you get to that point quickly! We'll teach you not only the essential technical tools, like Final Cut Pro X, but also important skills regarding creating motion graphics, color-correction, audio tweaking, and media management.

In addition, you'll get something that's even more important than technical know-how: you'll learn the artistic side of editing, to help ensure that your next videos will look and sound more professional than you ever imagined.

After You Register

BDA is committed to making learning process as enjoyable as possible and making sure that you can focus on your learning. After you register you will be contacted by our staff who answer questions you might have and assist you with any logistical and travel concerns.

Monday

9am - 5pm: Intro To Final Cut Pro

In this session you will get an introduction to the powerful workflow within Final Cut Pro. You'll learn how to set up your editing system, import footage, and manage metadata within an Event. The afternoon continues the session with how to build Projects for a variety of genres.

12pm - 1pm: Lunch Break

Tuesday

9am - 3pm: Fine-Tuning the Edit

This session shows you how to clean up your rough draft using the Trim tool. You will learn how to perform ripple, roll, and j-cut edits as well as use other common editing tools. You'll also learn how to work with transitions and begin to explore filters.

12pm - 1pm: Lunch Break

3pm - 5pm: Practice Time

During this practice session you'll be encouraged to edit a variety of sequences incorporating what you've learned about Final Cut Pro. The instructor will be available to offer guidance and answer any questions.

Wednesday

9am - 3pm: Intermediate Final Cut Pro

In this session we'll dig deeper into Final Cut Pro to explore areas such as chroma keying, multi-camera editing, and speed changes.

12pm - 1pm: Lunch Break

3pm - 5pm: Practice Time

You've learned a lot about Final Cut Pro in a short period of time. Now is your chance to explore on your own and get any questions answered. Feel free to bring in your own Events and Projects on a FireWire Hard Drive.

Thursday

9am - 5pm: Motion Graphics

You'll learn how to use the power of Motion to create high-quality graphics for your Final Cut Pro Projects. This all-day session will explore various capabilities of this real-time graphics software.

12pm - 1pm: Lunch Break

Friday

9am - 12pm: Audio

This morning session dives into working with audio inside Final Cut Pro. The discussions will cover acquiring great sound and the use of sound effects within your Projects.

1pm - 5pm: Cleaning Up and Exporting

Wrap up the day discovering the variety of export options. These options include the use of export presets and Compressor to create versions for the web, iDevices, and DVD.

Brendan BoykinBrendan Boykin is a trainer, editor, and video production consultant based in Castle Rock. As an Apple Certified Master Trainer and the owner of Creek Mountain Media (a digital video solutions company), Brendan draws on his background in broad and corporate video to provide training to post-production, education, and broad facilities nationwide. A frequent presenter at trade shows and digital video seminars, Brendan is an author, contributing writer, and technical editor/reviewer for numerous Apple Pro Training Series books. One of his latest books is the Final Cut Pro 7 Quick-Reference Guide published by Peachpit Press.
