Getting Started with Adobe Photoshop
Characteristics Of This Class:
We'll begin with a look at the interface and learn some basic Photoshop skills, like working efficiently with Photoshop's tools, undoing mistakes, and saving in different file formats. We'll cover how to work with Layers and why they're so important. And we'll introduce how and when to use selections. You'll leave this class with the basics under your belt, so that you can confidently move on to learn more specific applications of Photoshop to your photography or design work.

- Working with the Layers panel
- Building a layered file
- Combining images
Presented in Adobe CS6, but most of what is taught will apply to earlier versions of the program.
Who Should Take This:
Anyone who wants to use Photoshop to edit photos or create graphics for print or the web. If you've never used Photoshop, OR if you've played with Photoshop a little and gotten thoroughly confused, this workshop will make everything clear!
Hobbyist or amateur photographers with Photoshop Elements should take Getting Started with Photoshop Elements instead.
Jan Kabili
If you've used lynda.com or paged through leading Photoshop books and magazines, you probably know Photoshop guru and accomplished photographer Jan Kabili. She has recorded so many Photoshop video training courses for Lynda that she has her own URL there Her books include How to Wow: Photoshop for the Web, Photoshop Hands On Training for the Web, and the Complete Course books for both Photoshop and Elements. She has written many articles for Macworld, Photoshop User, and Mac Design. She's currently authoring Adobe's Photoshop Certified Expert Exam and beta testing new versions of Photoshop.

This was my first experience with BDA. The Getting Started with Photoshop class with Jan Kabili is one of the most useful introductory courses I've taken. Now I have enough information to make a good print from my digital camera using Photoshop, and I can improve from here. And, Jan gave us some secrets about the software that some seasoned users may not know. This is a great course for beginners and at an unbelievable price.

I loved the class! It was refreshing to have an open, yet small enough, class where discussions and questions were welcomed and the teacher communicated so well. I definitely plan to come back. I liked the 'workshop' also because in our busy lives, this is great and easier to fit into the daily schedule!

Last night's class was wonderful! Even though we covered all the basics, there was so much that we didn't have time to touch on! the instructor was super who better to learn from than the person who wrote the book on photoshop. I think BDA should host intermediate photoshop very soon.
